Windows
Desktop PCs and managed laptops are connected to the Windows domain MPI_NL. The domain holds all user account information. When you log in, you will get access to the network immediately. Please be sure that domain MPI_NL is selected. Alternatively, you can log in with your username@mpi.nl.
No account?
The guest account terminalpc can be used if you do not have an MPI account. There is no password required.
Network drives
After successful computer logon, your network drives are connected:
- K: your personal home driver under Windows. Only you have permission to read or write. Data on this location is backed up every night.
- U: your personal Linux home drive. Only you have permission to read or write. Data on this location is backed up every night.
- M: MPI-Scratch to exchange big files within MPI_NL domain. No backup. Lifetime files: max 15 days.
- N: general application drive (read only), used by TG
As a member of a department, the department workspace will also appear. Backed up every night by TG.
Recommended use:
- Save your data on K:, U:, or in your department workspace
- Do not store project data in your home directories, use workspaces for that
- Backup is not keeping track of versions of documents. If you want to keep older versions of files, save them with a different name and/or different location.
- Do not save large amounts of data in the Windows default Desktop, Downloads, or Documents libraries!
- Do not save data on the local system disk C:. Regard D: drive as 'working space' and network drives as more permanent storage of files.
Personal log in script
If you wish, you can edit your personal log in script to customise your environment when logging in, for example to add more network drives. Your personal log in script is named and located on K:\login.bat.
Example: to add the network drive o:, which should point to the workspace ac-test, write the following line in a text editor and save it as k:\login.bat:
net use o: \\corpora\Ac-test.
