During his End-of-Year-speech at the Staff Meeting, Simon Fisher shared some selected quotes from a very kind and heartfelt letter that our Directorate recently received from Prof. Ron Mangun (University of California, Davis), who was for the last nine years an excellent Chair of our Fachbeirat (independent Scientific Advisory Board). Also, Simon shared his top ten tips for a effective working day - scroll down to read them and make the most of it.

Beacon of scientific achievement
In his letter Prof. Mangun says that our Institute is "a beacon of scientific achievement—not just for psycholinguistics, but for the entire spectrum of science and scholarship. With every step forward, the Institute has continuously innovated—whether through expanding methodological and theoretical frameworks for understanding language and communication, or in its vital roles in training the next generation of scholars, engaging the public, and providing national and international leadership in language science (...)."
"(...) The success of the administrative and scientific staff has been inspiring. The talent, dedication, and professionalism they bring to their work in support of the Institute’s mission have been a constant source of admiration. It has been a pleasure to observe and benefit from their expertise."
Remarkable journey
"But while reflecting on the many strengths and accomplishments of the Institute, what stands out is my profound feeling of gratitude for the opportunity to be part of something so special. What may seem like business as usual to those of you who are immersed in your good works is, to me, extraordinary. I am genuinely grateful for the chance to have met and worked alongside so many talented scholars, trainees, and staff members, and to immerse myself in their stimulating scientific thinking, discoveries, and leadership achievements. This has simply been a joy, and I consider it a gift of immensurable value.
(...) It is with a fair bit of sadness that I come to the end of my term as Fachbeirat chair, but I will follow, with great interest, how the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics moves forward on its remarkable journey."
